The first week in March is a special week for children’s literacy, with both World Book Day and Dr Seuss Day taking place. Children up and down the country celebrate some of the worlds best loved children’s authors with dress up and fun reading related activities. In 2016 I joined in with the Goodreads Rading challenge. I challenged myself to read 52 books over the year, amounting to one book a week. Did I do it? No, I managed a measly ten. I’m taking part in the 2017 reading challenge this year, and you may think that I’d adjust my goals accordingly, but I’m not. Again, I’ve challenged myself to read 52 books. For me there is simply nothing better than curling up with a good book. Particularly at this time of year, when the weather is cold and the nights are dark. It’s lovely to draw the curtains, light up the fire and get lost in another world. As a child I always had my nose in a book. I loved to read, and it’s something I’ve carried with me in to adulthood. When my husband goes to the supermarket, he always brings home a book for the children. A few weeks ago, after a trip to one of our local shops, he came home armed with bags of groceries as usual, and a book for the kids, as usual. But, there was something quite unusual about the chosen book, ‘The Book With No Pictures’. What is so unusual about it? Well, the name might give you a clue.
