Living well isn’t just about the food you put into your body, or even the amount of times you go to crossfit each week. Instead, think about wellness as the sum of many things that you do each day that positively impact your body and mind.
The number on the scale is not the only thing that matters when it comes to health. It is a much better indicator to look at your BMI (Body Mass Index). But even then, many factors can give an indication of your health that have nothing to do with your weight, or body mass.
Your hair, for example, can say a lot about your health. This is because your hair is an indicator of the health of your body as a whole. Thinning, dry, or brittle hair can point to a whole host of health issues, signs that something is not as it should be in your body. There are many health problems that include the above symptoms. A nutritional malabsorption is one common issue that leads to hair loss, as well as stress and hypothyroidism. Eating a well balanced diet rich in healthy fats and wholefoods will do a lot for the health of your hair (and body as a whole), as good nutrition will provide your body with the right vitamins and minerals it requires for optimal function.
Healthy teeth and gums will give you a beautiful smile, and is more than just an aesthetic bonus. Proper oral hygiene will ensure you don’t suffer from oral infections such as tooth decay and gum disease. Inflamed gums, and infected teeth are signs that the bacteria in your mouth has surpassed normal levels. And while a certain amount of bacteria is normal (as with other parts of your body) if it creeps up beyond your bodies ability to deal with it, it can result in a whole host of oral conditions. Regularly brushing (and flossing) your teeth will of course keep your teeth and gums in good health, however it is not just your oral hygiene routine, or lack thereof, that will determine your health. Smoking, will almost certainly result in the discolouration of your teeth, as well as increase the potential for you to get mouth disease. E-cigarettes are an alternative to cigarettes that many people believe to be kinder to oral health. Come experience some amazing e-liquids and see if this alternative works for you.
Your nails are also an excellent indicator of your health. In much the same way that your hair is a visual indicator of your health, so are your nails. You should look out for discoloration, ridged lines running across the nail, and any changes to the normal shape and texture of your nails. Again, nutritional imbalances can be one of the principal reasons for abnormal nails, however there are a whole host of other reasons you may have noticed some alarming changes in your nails. Fungal infections can also be the reason behind discoloured nails, and fortunately are also easily treatable.
