A good night’s sleep is something I crave, all of the time. I love my bed. I love snuggling up under my duvet, and could happily spend the whole day in bed if given the chance. Of course, I’ll never be given that chance now that I’m a parent of two. My children are lovely little creatures but they definitely could do with sleeping a bit more.
As most parents will know, time spent sleeping is precious. From the moment mama finds out she’s pregnant, sleep (or lack of it) becomes a big deal. From the uncomfortable nights with a huge bump, to nights feeds at the most unsociable hours. Sleep becomes a luxury, and you’ll take whatever you can get. I absolutely cherish my sleep now, and I’m always looking for ways to improve it.
One of the best things I’ve ever done for myself is buy a good mattress. A couple of years ago my husband and I decided to upgrade ours from a basic spring mattress to something more supportive with a memory foam layer. Until that point, I’d truly underestimated the difference having a good mattress would make to my sleep. For the first time in years, I was waking up feeling refreshed.
I’ve always had problems with back pain, and my husband has been the same. I’d say this is mostly caused by poor support and posture while sleeping. While buying a good mattress helps with support, there are also things you can do to help yourself. Finding the right position can do a world of good when it comes to getting a good sleep and supporting your back. This video has some great tips and is well worth a watch:
We spend such a huge portion of our lives in bed, so it definitely makes sense to do it right. Who wants to spend 25 years of their life in an uncomfortable place? Whatever stage in my life, I want to make sure I’m supporting my body properly during sleep. Whether that be with a good supporting mattress, or with one of these Adjustamatic adjustable beds for the elderly. It really is so important!
So, tonight I’ll be going to bed with a little more to think about. But hopefully, that extra thought will help me to wake up tomorrow feeling the best I can.
What tips do you have for getting a comfortable night’s sleep?
