As a child I loved horses and ponies. I spent many an evening playing with my favourite pony toys after school, dreaming that one day I could own a real horse of my own. Each year when asked what I wanted for my birthday, I would always reply “a horse”. To silence my requests, my auntie told me if I was good she’d buy me a horse for my 12th birthday. I never forgot about that. I was thoroughly disappointed when my 12th birthday rolled around and I didn’t receive that special gift.
Now I’m the proud mum of a 7 year old girl, who certainly seems to be following in my footsteps. Maybe it’s just a little girl thing, but my daughter loves all things pony and unicorn. And just like me when I was her age, she dreams of owning her own horse one day. Caitlin’s face always lights up at the site of a horse trotting up the street, or when we pass grazing horses in a nearby field. This year I plan on taking her to her first horse riding lessons. We’re lucky to live in a lovely rural community where horses and horse riding are a big thing. Growing up in the city, I didn’t quite have thant. In fact, I’ve never ridden a horse, so perhaps that’s an experience we can tick off our bucket list together.
So with all of this in mind, when Petplan Equine asked us to take part in their ‘My Dream Horse’ campaign, we absolutely couldn’t say no. Petplan have been providing insurance for our beloved animals for over 40 years, and they understand that horse owners have specific needs when it comes to insurance. They’re one of the only equine insurers to provide genuine lifetime cover. As well as knowing what horses and their owners need from an insurer, they also work closely with over 1000 animal charities in the UK. While we don’t have any experience of owning horses (yet!), we do have two cats and we totally understand the importance of looking after your animals.
As part of the Petplan Dream Horse campaign, Caitlin was given the opportunity to design her dream horse. This was pretty exciting, how often do you get to design something, with no limitations? Caitlin is pretty creative, and has the most weird and wonderful imagination so she gladly took on the challenge of designing her ultimate dream horse.
We had a lovely time creating the design. It was so nice to watch how her creative mind worked, and we discussed so many different ideas. Using a whole load of imagination, with a dash of inspiration from here favourite ponies and unicorns; She agonised over every detail until she finally came up with a design she was happy with. Her dream horse had a rainbow body, a pretty crown, wings and a horn. A perfect rainbow unicorn, don’t you think?
Once finished, we sent the design to Petplan. A week later, a very special parcel arrived in the post. Caitlin’s rainbow unicorn design had been made in to her very own unique toy. I think both of us squealed in delight when we opened the package.
The toy is perfect, down to every last detail. The little heart Caitlin added to the crown on her design, the little flick of the eyelashes, it’s all there. Even the wonky legs from the drawing were translated in to cuddly goodness.
It’s all kinds of fantastic, and the best thing about it is it’s completely unique. No one else in the world will have this unicorn, now that’s pretty special!
Many thanks to the lovely people at Petplan for turning Caitlin’s imagination in to a reality!
This post has been possible thanks to Petplan Equine, but all thoughts are my own.
