You just can’t beat a BBQ in the summer time. You know when it’s a warm day and you step outside, and the smell of smoke hangs in the air? That is the smell of summer for me. You can’t help but crave a bbq when you smell that! I had one of those moment a couple of week ago, and I’ve been craving a bbq ever since.
When Tesco Northern Ireland got in touch to see if we’d like to have our own family barbecue, we were delighted! Here is what Tesco NI had to say:
Tesco Northern Ireland want to encourage families across Northern Ireland to take advantage of the summer weather, having a BBQ feast for the whole family with the very best of local produce. From fresh rolls, prime beef, succulent sausages and more, it’s never been easier to go local this summer!
In conjunction with the ‘BBQ’ product theme for July and the upcoming ‘Love NI Meat’ month in August, as part of Northern Ireland Year of Food and Drink programme, Tesco Northern Ireland is proud to showcase the award winning produce from Northern Ireland, which is perfect for treating your family and friends this summer.
With all the great local produce available in Tesco Northern Ireland stores, customers are set to enjoy delicious barbeques with their family and friends.
We were kindly gifted a huge hamper full of locally produced goodies. Enough food and drink to feed the whole family, and then some. We couldn’t wait to get cooking!
The pack contained steak, burgers, sausages, fresh rolls, salads, fizzy pop, beer and cider, all of which was produced locally. I’m always keen to support local, and it’s great to see such a great selection of locally sourced food in Tesco!
We couldn’t wait to get the bbq fired up, but mother nature didn’t seem too keen. We tried to hold out for a nice day, but it never came. We ended up having to light it up on a rather grey and miserable day. That’s Northern Ireland for you! Thankfully the rain help off long enough for us to enjoy a nice afternoon.
I’m not a big meat eater myself, but the smell of the sausages sizzling away over the hot fire was divine. Alongside the sausages, we cooked up some burgers, bbq ribs and chicken kebabs. We served it all up with potato salad, coleslaw and some fresh bread rolls.
Once the cooking was done it was time to relax and spend some quality time together. Eating, drinking, laughing and making great summer memories. Which is what a barbecue is all about, isn’t it?
For a wee treat I even indulged in a bottle of Magners, and my hubby enjoyed a bottle of Belfast beer, which was pretty refreshing. We don’t often drink, so it’s was nice to have a couple of bottles while we enjoyed the food.
The food we had was absolutely delicious, and I loved that it was all made here in this wee country of ours. We had a fantastic afternoon, and I’m looking forward to a few more barbecues over the summer!
Many thanks to Tesco Northern Ireland for the lovely gift. We were provided with the ingredients for the bbq free of charge but all views remain our own.
