As a blogger, I’m always taking photos. Photos of the kids, what I’m wearing, my food… ok pretty much everything. I’ve always got my camera close by to snap the precious moments. Since getting my DSLR two years ago, photography has become a real hobby for me, and I love tinkering around with it to try and get the perfect shot.
Naturally, my children see me taking photos and want to give it a try. Their iPads are filled with photos. I love looking through their photo stream, to see what they’ve been snapping. The photos tell a story about what matters to them: their pets, toys, each other, and lots of photos of mum and dad. It’s great to see the world through their eyes.
Last week we went out for a walk, and for the first time the children asked if they could have a turn on the ‘big camera’. They both took it in turns to take photos and mess around with the settings.
We walked slowly up the lane, and the kids snapped flowers, birds and took pictures of each other. My heart was in my mouth the whole time, worrying they were going to drop my camera, but they were very careful with it. It was actually lovely to watch them. This is a lane e walk up and down a few times a week, but for the first time they were really paying attention to their surroundings, looking for a nice place to take a photo. And as they asked me about the buttons and what everything was, I felt a sense of pride that my children were sharing an interest with me.
I came home and felt inspired by their enthusiasm. Last year I had thought about starting a children’s photography linky, and ended up talking myself out of it. But watching them enjoying using a camera mad me think that there are probably lots more little budding photographers out there! So, I’ve decided to go for it.
So if your children love taking photos, be it on their iPad, their kids camera or even the ‘big camera’, I’d love you to come and share it with me!
Starting Thursday 23rd June, you can link up your children’s photos. Go out and about this week and let your children get snap happy. I hope to see you next week!
