It’s almost summer, the weather is getting warmer and we’ve had our first BBQ of the year. Ok, so it might be freezing today, but I’m calling that a blip. I’ve been going through my wardrobe looking for my summer clothes that were packed away last September, but I realised there might be a bit of a problem. My colourful playsuits, shorts and dresses from last summer are all a size 10, and I most certainly am not. After trying some things on, I soon realised this really was a problem, as I can’t fit in to any of it. I stepped on the scales to find that I have gained 1.5 stone since last August. It shocked me, and has got me thinking that I really need to get my self in to shape again.
Last spring, I took part in a challenge to drop a dress size for the summer. It wasn’t a fad diet, it was through good healthy eating, appropriate portion sizes and regular exercise. At the beginning of the challenge, I was 10st 12, the heaviest I’d ever been, and I felt rubbish about myself. I was ready to take on the challenge, to get myself back to a size I felt comfortable with. For 12 weeks, I pushed myself, and I lost around a stone, getting to just under 10st and fitting comfortably in to a size 10.
I didn’t just stop after the 12 weeks either, I continued my healthy eating and exercise right through the summer. To celebrate my weightless, I treated myself to a new summer wardrobe, and I spent June, July and August feeling great about myself. I was enjoying going out running, cycling, doing yoga and dance, trying new foods like quinoa and vegetables I would not have previously eaten and it was wonderful.
Then Autumn rolled in, it got colder didn’t have any I running clothes for the colder weather, so I just stopped running. And that would spell the beginning of the end of my healthy lifestyle I’d worked hard to achieve. Soon after stopping running, I stopped doing my home workouts. An then I started treating myself to chocolate more often, and adding an extra helping of pasta to my plate. Before I knew it, it was Christmas and I was back up close to 11st.
Fast forward until now, and things have just continued to get worse. I haven’t exercised at all since Christmas, and I’ve been ‘treating myself’ to the most unhealthy food every day. So, I guess it should come as no surprise that I no longer fit the clothes I bought last year. It doesn’t mean I didn’t feel shocked when I stepped on to the scales though. I’m now weighing in at 11st 4, and my button is ready to pop on my new size 12 jeans. Not only that, but I feel bloated all of the time, and generally just don’t feel very healthy.
So, I’ve made the decision to get back to healthy eating and start running and exercising again. I’m not buying any more sweets and chocolate in the shop because if it’s in the house it will only tempt me. I’ve also bought myself some new colourful workout clothes to inspire me to start running again. Of course, I’ve somehow managed to hurt myself this week meaning my plans to start exercising have been set aside for a few days, which is a little bit annoying.
