6th Birthday
Family Life, Personal

Caitlin Today You Are 6

Caitlin, today you turned 6. My beautiful, sweet little lady is another year older. It doesn’t feel like a year ago I wrote about you turning 5, and it certainly doesn’t feely like 6 years ago you arrived in to this world.

Last night you were so excited, you couldn’t sleep. Still bright eyed at 11pm, we brought you in to bed with us, hoping that a cuddle would help you settle. As we snuggled together, it reminded me of the early days, when I would curl up on the sofa with you nestled in the crook of my arm. I didn’t think then that I could love you any more, but my love for you has grown each day since the day you were born.

You skipped off to school this morning, as you do every morning, with a grin on your face. The promise of a birthday tea with your best friends adding an extra spring to your step. And as you stepped off the bus this afternoon, and your eyes drifted to the pink balloons blowing in the wind at our front door, I thought you might burst with excitement.

You had your first party today. I’ve spent the whole day fussing around the house, making sure everything was perfect. It was only your two closest friends, but anyone would think the queen was visiting. I wanted to make sure everything was perfect for you, because you’ve been so excited. You even made your own birthday banner in anticipation, which I thought was really sweet.

You had the time of your life. Dressed in your sparkly dress, you played with your friends, ate so many sweets your tummy hurt, had a ‘cinema party’ on the big screen, pretended to be My Little Ponies, sang, danced and generally had a ball.

Now, as you lie sleeping in your bed after a long and exciting day, I have a little time to reflect on the last year. I’ve watched as you have blossomed at school, becoming a confident little worker, now regularly getting 8/8 on your Friday tests. I’ve watched you form bonds with your new school friends and really come out of your shell. In recent weeks you have started to show an interest in pop music, singing along to Olly Murs and One Direction on the radio. I knew it would happen sooner or later, but it makes you feel all the more grown up. Not long ago we were singing along to nursery rhymes, and now we are singing along to boybands. How did that happen?

I’m going to end this by saying that you are growing to be a beautiful, funny, thoughtful little lady, and I’m very proud of you. (Now if you could just slow slow down on the whole growing thing, that would be great, I want you to be my baby for a little bit longer!) Happy 6th Birthday my little Taityboo xx

Happy 6th birthday to your little one- There is always something so emotional about birthdays. I completely agree about wanting our children to stop growing older so quickly!
